Moving to a new home
On Monday I start a new journey, with an exciting move to a new home. I've lived in the same family home since I was born, 38 years in total, and earlier this year we decided to move to a lovely new family home in the garden village of Wynyard, near Stockton-on-Tees.
It's a big move, from a small semi-detached home to a modern, new build that's nearly 7,000 square ft. But it's also a great opportunity to start with a blank canvas, that we can furnish and decorate just as we like, and really make it our own.
As well as decorating it, we have a great opportunity to make it smart, with an excellent fibre connection at the core of the home. This allows us to implement all kinds of technologies, from security and surveillance to light switches and automation.
We'll also be taking advantage of the home's roof space, with a solar and battery installation in the near future, as well as making use of Octopus Energy's Agile Tariff, which I'm a big fan of. This tariff follows the daily wholesale rate, and allows us to manage our usage accordingly.
The use of smart home technology also allows us to monitor the energy usage of individual appliances, especially ones that are heat-producing, such as washers and dryers, to maximise our savings where we can.
As well as my other tech projects, I'll be keeping you up to date with this new adventure here on my blog, as well as my Instagram. Here's to new adventures!
