Adding sharing tools to my apps
I don't really have any marketing budget that will make a meaningful impact for any of these apps, other than my £2 per day Meta Ads experiment that I'm currently running on Stay Monday, so one of the ways that I generate organic traffic is through sharing tools.
The first and most important one for each app is Open Graph tags, and a really good Open Graph image. I find this to be not only essential for good SEO, but also to look good when people share their results, stats, tasks etc on their social media pages, especially Facebook.
There are plenty of different ways to create Open Graph images - Canva, Adobe Express, ChatGPT, but what I tend to like to do is take a screenshot of the app in action and build a mockup around that, like I did with My Weight Tracker.
I actually used the free Mockups tool from Liinks.co for this image - they have tons of backgrounds and templates that you can just drop your screenshot into and it generates both low and high resolution versions for you.
Within each app I then try to make some kind of stylised share image, which is handy for apps like My Weight Tracker or PatchLogic, where you may want to share results, either from weight loss or a puzzle solve.
It's still under testing, although it is live in My Weight Tracker, but I've added a new Share My Stats feature to the footer, which generates an Instagram-ready 1080x1080px stats image, which is customisable so you can decide what to share, and then post it to Instagram, Facebook, or share it with your friends on WhatsApp.
By using good sharing tools, images and prompts, I'm hoping that over time some of my apps organic reach will start to gain good traction whilst being a rewarding part of the app experience for my users.
